Monday Mani : ' Sparkle & Skull '

Black and silver is a classic combination for pretty much anything. Add some sparkle and its becomes sexy. Add some skulls and it becomes funky. Finally add some studs and you have a classic, sexy and funky combo. Translate all this into nail art and let your nails become the center of attraction ;)

I did this relatively simple nail art because I wanted to use the silver metal studs that I had since a few months. These metal studs are not at all irritating or tangling in the hair. A nice change to the plastic rhinestones :)

I started off with a black base and did a silver gradient on the thumb and the pinkie finger. The index and ring fingers were supposed to have a reverse gradient but somehow it became a disoriented half moon :p I added a holo silver glitter layering polish on the silver gradient to add some rainbow shine. The middle finger was accented with round silver metal studs making a vertical line in the middle of the nail. I placed a stud on the thumb and the pinkie too since it looked quite boring otherwise. And finally stamped the skulls on the index and ring fingers using OB5 Plate.

Lemme know below what you think of this mani :)

MAC blush Peachykeen swatch & review

I am pretty sure that all of you girls must have bought some things (could be anything) which have a back story. And it is these stories that be with you as long as you use that product ( or whatever the thing was).

When anybody is working out and happen to be in front of the mirror, what does that person see ?? A guy will keep checking his abs and biceps and a girl will keep checking whether she managed to reduce her waist !! And what did I see ? Not my waist or the swell of my biceps...I saw my flushed cheeks and couldn't take my eyes off :p I knew I had to get a blush which would give me the same flush even while I wasn't working out. A run to the MAC store and just 2 minutes of discussion  I had in my hand my favorite blush MAC Peachykeen :D

MAC describes Peachykeen as a very baby peach but I beg to differ. It is a lovely peachy pink with fine golden shimmer. It is from the sheertone shimmer family, so you have total control over the look of the blush.

On light application, this comes up as a beautiful sheer natural blush. You can build the color to that in the pan by adding some more.

The golden shimmer doesn't really show up but you can't ignore its presence too. Its the reason your cheeks will glow when you have Peachykeen on them ;)

The stay with MAC blushes is awesome. A good 5 hours on my oily skin is definitely awesome. It starts to fade then but I use only so much that it looks blushing-without-blush. If I go heavy on the application, the staying time is bound to increase.

Peachykeen is easy to apply and blend without much hassles. The shimmer is not felt on the skin and doesn't travel to places unintended.

People with open pores normally tend to shy away from blushes that have shimmer in them because shimmer can actually highlight the open pores making the face look ugly. But Peachykeen didn't dare do something like that to its users.

Price: Rs.1350/6 gm
Rating:5/5 happi :)

There is no reason for me to not like Peachykeen...so in love with it...are you ?? Lemme know below :)

Monday Mani ' 2 States '

So, the giveaway is over and the winners have been contacted...I had a wonderful time reading the comments and especially the ones who said they would like anything I chose for them. So sweet you people are <3 I promise to do better giveaways in future :D

On to the main topic...

A few days back, I was reading this completely entertaining book by Chetan Bhagat called ' 2 States: The story of my marriage '. It is a story of a couple from different religions, the problems they face and how they overcome all the hurdles to get married. Totally filmy but super fun :D

In some ways, it is the story of my marriage too ( minus the live-in ) It totally brought back to me memories of my dating days, struggle with both sets of parents and the problems I faced in the initial days of marriage due to total change in people, place, religion, culture and language. So I tried translating all those days into this mani....

The barbed wire is not only denoting borders of 2 Indian states but also differences in culture, religion and language. The heart rhinestone and the rings clearly denote that inspite of these differences, we managed to get married and have our happily ever after :D

The base is Zoya Purity.

The barbed wire design is done using BM 323 plate and Street Wear Shine Divine polish in Black Divine.

The entwined rings are from Cheeky Summer Collection plate CH54 stamped with Kleancolor Metallic Red.

The heart shaped rhinestone came in a wheel with various nail art deco.

Yeah, the black bled inspite of letting it dry for quite ome time and using Seche Vite :(

The Body Shop Strawberry Body Mist Review

There must be really no one who doesn't like the sweet and yummy strawberry fragrance. Its the most common flavor for lip balms. If you thought strawberry shower gels and body butters from The Body Shop left you smelling yummy enough, its time to make yourself smell yummier :p The latest addition to the strawberry-ed products, Strawberry Body Mist, will make sure you do.

Brand claims:

Our Strawberry takes on a fresh new form. Spray this light scented body mist all over your body for a gentle burst of sweet fruitiness. It’s irresistible.

Sweet strawberry fragrance
Light and fresh
Use all over body
Contains strawberry extract

Spritz it on after bathing or showering. Top up throughout the day.

My thoughts:
I can't agree more on the sweet fruity fragrance. This mist was a natural choice for me, not only because I love strawberries as a fruit. Yeah, when people around me are sneezing and covering themselves with gloves and mufflers, I am making yummy strawberry milkshakes and smoothies for myself :p

There is no artificial strawberry 'smell' irritating your nostrils among any of the strawberry-ed TBS products. It smells as real as a ripe red strawberry. Must be the 'strawberry extract' that the brand claims to have used.
The basic difference between a body mist and EDT/PDT is that the former is water based and the latter are alcohol based. This also means that the yummy frag isn't going to last long, the very reason I don't bother about body mists !! But boy was I surprised to see that even after 4 hours I was mildly smelling of strawberries :D

The mist gets sprayed in an even spritz and doesn't drip down my skin like some of the other mists that I have tried.

I think this body mist will be my best friend this winter but I am not too hopeful about it working on me in summer since I tend to sweat a lot. And I don't think I would want to carry this bottle with me everywhere since it is made off glass :( I am sure to drop it somewhere since I can be really clumsy sometimes (most of the times) :p

Price: Rs 645/100 ml
Rating: 4/5 happi :)

Now that I am happi with the Strawberry Body Mist, I am surely trying out other fragrances. Has anyone of you tried this or the other ones ? Which one did you like the best ? Lemme know below :)

MAC Fix+ Spray Review

There are times when I don't want to put on any make up but still look fresh and beautiful. And there are also times when I want to do a full on make up session and then tone it down to look natural ! There's one thing that becomes my best friend at such times. Its MAC Fix+ spray.

What MAC says:
An aqua-spritz of vitamin and minerals, infused with a calm-the-skin blend of green tea, chamomile, cucumber, topped off with the fresh, natural, energizing scent of Sugi. Adds radiance, finishes makeup. Spray it on. Skin drinks it up!

MAC Fix+ is a clear, watery liquid which comes in a transparent spray bottle. The nozzle has a small twist lock which prevents the liquid from spilling out.

A spray from this bottle is a cheat code to fresh and dewy looking skin. So I do cheat sometimes by spraying this on after washing my face, tint my lips, a dash of kohl and I am good to go. Honestly, I skip moisturizer when I am using this directly on just washed face. But you may not want to do that..totally upto you.

You can sometimes come across as cakey looking when you have full makeup done. A spritz of Fix+ will blow away all the excess product and the make up will look natural. Fix is also said to increase the overall make up staying power when used prior to using compact/loose powder.

Fix + can also be used to give intensity to baked eye shadows. You just need to wet the brush with Fix+ and use it to apply the shadow. Powdered eye shadows or pigments can also be applied without causing fallout in the same way.

baked eye shadow: left- dry, right- wet, using MAC Fix+

Fix+ soothes my inflamed skin too since it has green tea, chamomile and cucumber. Sounds like a bowl of salad for your skin ? It is very quick absorbing so you don't have to wait a lot to get the wetness away from the face. And I love the compliments I get for my skin " ooo aapki skin kitni glow karti hai " :p ( you have such glowing skin :p)

Honestly, this is more of a luxury then a necessity, but if curiosity gets better of you, give it a try. And if you do, I bet you won't regret having this multi tasker.

Price: Rs.1050/100ml

MAC lipstick Mehr swatch & review

With the purchase of this lipstick, I have officially turned into a makeup hoarder. Why you ask. Because this is the 3rd lipstick I bought from the same collection (unusual of me) . The others, Double Shot and Yash have already been reviewed.

Named after legendary makeup artist Mickey Contractor's wife, Mehr made its debut in 2011, with the Mickey Contractor Collection. This was an instant blockbuster and many pretties had to go away without it. As a answer to their prayers, this lipstick has been made permanent since all MAC senior artists highly recommend Mehr for Indian beauties.

MAC describes Mehr as a subtly blue-toned medium pink. Nothing to worry when I say blue toned. Its not that ghastly looking barbie doll pink. It is the kind of pink that will work on every one. I have a strong dislike towards pink lipsticks but Mehr is something I am very comfortable wearing. It has a matte finish but is still creamy. Expect a hassle free application. Not really moisturizing but it sure doesn't dry the lips out. Fine lines and dead skin on the lips can be happy with their visibility due to the matte finish of the lipstick. But that also means longer lasting power. Mehr lasted great at 4.5 hrs. Can't ask for more.

Makeup artists in the store recommend layering Mehr over MAC Plum or Soar lip pencils with a touch of Ample Pink Plushglass. I can see Mehr become my go-to pink lipstick since we have quite a few options to tweak the color a bit here and there as per our liking.

How would you like to wear Mehr, on it own or layered over a lip pencil ? Lemme know below :)

Price. Rs.990
Rating. 5/5 happi :)

Deborah Milano Nail Polish #837 swatch & review

It is really heartbreaking when you fall in love at 1st sight with something and it turns out a to be a b***h !! Though its not an uncommon thing to happen with beauty addicts, it hurts every damn time.

The heartbreaker in question is a beautiful parrot green nail polish Deborah Milano 7 Days Long  #837' It is from a range called Water Ice ColorDeborah, why you no give cute names to polishes ??

This sheer green polish is a jellyyy YAY with golden-green tiny flake glitter (not flakies). The formula is a bit on the thicker side but nothing that cannot be worked with. Applies smoothly and doesn't feel gritty at all. It stayed intact for 3 days after which it was removed. The drying time increases with the number of coats. I smudged two nails while waiting for the polish to dry :/

Now you ask how did this polish become 'the heartbreaker' ? It STAINS :( I tried this at the store on one nail and bought it. When I removed it after coming home, I was shocked to see that my nail has green stains !! I thought maybe the base coat would stop the stains but I was wrong. The green penetrated through the base coat AND one coat of fevicol. Though the intensity was not as much as on the naked nail. Totally broke my heart.

Now it would be totally unfair after my polish haul, if I didn't slap some glitter over this. So I put on Kleancolor Green with Envy.

Will I repurchase use it again ?? Yes I will since its a lovely color, but only to remove it as soon as my purpose of a green polish is met ! Or maybe just give it away :(

Price: Rs. 230/11 ml
Rating: 3/5 happi :)

Has anyone else experienced the staining problem with Deborah ?? Lemme know below :)

O.P.I Funny Bunny swatch & review + NOTD

I take a moment to thank Indian online shopping portals who have started to expand their horizons and import firangi brands for us lesser mortals here in India.  Finally, after months of placing an order and then being told that COD is not available to my city and then placing the same order with another seller and not getting it delivered even after 5 months, I finally have O.P.I Funny Bunny in my hands :D My sincere thanks to purplle.com for helping me out with this !

Funny Bunny 2 coats

Funny Bunny is a sheer soft white jelly, french manicure appropriate. I like the fact that it's not a bright white creme which generally makes the cuticle surrounding skin look dark. It takes 4-5 coats to get a full opaque look. Formula wise, Funny Bunny is very good. It does streak a bit, but as you get to the 3rd coat, the polish levels itself and gives a streak free look.

This polish was bought for a purpose and that is to make yummy glitter sandwiches. Ahh not those edible types but those which will be on your nails :D

I absolutely love white based glitter polishes. So there was no way that I wouldn't use some glitter with Funny Bunny so I made a glitter sandwich using Funny Bunny and LA Girls Glitter Addict Uninhabited and Jordana Glitters Confetti.

I started of with 2 coats of Funny Bunny followed by a very thin coat of black glitter. Another thin coat of Funny Bunny followed by dabbing of fuschia and black glitter very lightly. Layered another thin coat of Funny Bunny and sealed with Seche Vite top coat.

I know , I totally messed up on the middle finger. I actually forgot that i was supposed to dab and not put on a full layer which kinda led to more glitter concentration. Never mind, there's always a next time :)

Price: Rs.520/15 ml bought from purplle.com
Rating; 5/5 happi :) since I don't ever intend to get an opaque look from this one.

What do you think of my glitter sandwich recipe ?? Lemme know below :)

MAC lipstick Yash swatch & review

MAC released the Indian Lipsticks collection with two re-promotes and two new shades. I have already reviewed Double Shot earlier.

Let's rewind our MAC life to the year 2011, the period of the Mickey Contractor Collection. It was an honor for us to have an entire collection in the name of the man who gave India, MAC. Mr.Mickey Contractor is a hot favorite among Bollywood actresses. Without doubt, Bollywood would influence his collection. So in honor of Late Mr.Yash Johar, Mickey gave us the deep neutral lipstick 'Yash'. MAC decided to relaunch this shade along with Mehr and make it permanent..YAYY

MAC Yash is a matte textured neutral lipstick, made to suit Indian skin tones. So I had to get it, or my love for neutral lipsticks would have been questioned by my MAC part of conscience. But this didn't really turn out to be the color for me. It washed me out real bad. The mua had earlier warned me that this color may not work for me but I was adamant on hoarding buying this lipstick. She adviced me to use it with a lip pencil like Soar, Hover or Plum. Basically I am a very lazy person, so I knew it's not going to be possible for me to use lip pencils everytime. I just nodded and walked out of the store, my head heavy with the exhilaration of owning Yash.

Since I had shown a bit of over confidence by not trying it out at the store, I didn't give up and funnily, it looked a bit better after a few minutes. No, the liptick didn't change color or get oxidized (duh), I just got used to seeing it on me.

Unlike our mental image of a matte lipstick, Yash didn't dry my lips out. It has a very creamy texture and is amazingly smooth to apply, going opaque in a single swipe. It does like a little chalky on the lips but it doesn't feel so. The look can easily be corrected with a layer of clear lip gloss on top.

As any other mattes, Yash is not very considerate on our fine lines and dead skin. It wants to accentuate each one of them. Scrubbed lips is the way to go..It lasted around 3.5 hrs on me with a meal and was totally gone by 4.5 hrs. The vanilla scent and the black case remain as always :)

Dark beauties, above MAC NC 42, run away at the sight of this lipstick.

Price: Rs.990
Rating: 4/5 happi :)

What do you think girls, about Yash :p lol
