JENsations White Out swatch & review + NOTD 'Gloomsday'

Gloomsday ? Hasn't all the recent happenings and its aftermath made you gloomy ? Or angry ? Or scared? Well I am scared, not only for myself or my 6 yr old daughter but for all the girls who happen to live amongst the monsters under the guise of 'men'. But I am also angry at the pathetic state of the women folk of India. While I can't go out and punish those b*****ds with my own bare hands, I can fight in my own small way. I can shout back at a loafer who as much as whistles at me, I can push the a$$hole who dares to touch me, and I can definitely stay alert and see where I am going and if I am being followed. I can save a few police helpline nos on my cell phone. And I can definitely pray that no other girl has to undergo the brutality of a  rape to be announced as the 'Daughter of India'.

The weather it seems, is mourning the loss of that innocent soul too...Its been almost 10 days without sunlight. It certainly is making me lethargic and cranky. My heart is in despair and my mood comes through very aptly with my today's manicure.

Its a pity that I am unable to be happi at the moment but this particular indie polish has my heart. Meet 'White Out' by Jensations. All Jensations polishes come in a super cute star shaped bottle which is relatively easy to store.

'White Out' subtle mix of all matte white multi-sized hexes, square and bar glitter in a clear base. Jam packed with glitter pieces, the base is slightly thick. There is a LOT of glitter but it sinks down to the bottom so a vigorous shake is a must. The glitter doesn't stick their head up except the bars. A good top coat can fix this easily.

Here is 2 coats of White Out layered on 2 coats of NYX advanced salon formula nail polish in 'Cloudy', a dusty grey, perfectly gloomy !! Though I am loving the clean look of this mani.

Jensations polishes are available on Etsy. The owner, Jen, has a wide array of glitter combos with whacky names. Jen ships international too but the shipping is a killer :/ Time to email those US based relatives lol.

Price: 8$/10 ml + shipping

Rating: 4/5 happi :)

What do you think about the matte white glitter? Lemme know below :)

Wish you guys a Happy & a Safe New Year :D

Revlon Top Speed nail polish 'Royal' swatch & review

Hey lovelies,

A short review and a quick NOTD today...didn't want to let another Monday go without a polish show :p

So today I have a new launch from Revlon from their Top Speed range. A much talked after, squishy royal blue jelly...Revlon Top Speed Fast Dry Nail Enamel in 'Royal'...

You will totally have to ignore the crappy polish application since I messed up with the base coat :p The polish itself doesn't bubble !

This is 2 coats of Revlon Royal. The picture clearly shows how sheer the polish is. The formula is just perfect for application. Absolutely gorgeous for glitter sandwiches :D And I had to try one myself :p

And it didn't turn out how I would have liked it to be...I went over board and added 1 coat of LA Girls Glitter Addict in 'Jostle' and 1 coat of 'Purge' from the same brand. Topped of with 1 thin coat of Royal and Seche Vite. So I didn't continue with this on the other fingers and just used 2 coats of Jostle and sealed everything with a coat of Seche...

I liked how the royal blue turned glitzy coz of the glitter of the same royal blue shade :D

Price: Rs. 210/ 8 ml

Rating: 4.5/5 happi :)
So what do you guys think of Revlon Royal ? Lemme know below :)

Best of 2012 Part 1

Hello lovelies,

So 2012 is ending in a few days so I guess it's the right time for me to come up with a list of products that have been my favorite this year, irrespective of when they were launched. These are the products that I used a lot in 2012.

* Lakme Absolute Mattreal Skin Natural Mousse :

A late discovery but I am taken over by the texture of it. Blends like a dream, looks natural and doesn't break me out :D

* MAC Lipstick in 'See Sheer' :

It's weird that I am in love with this grapefruit pink even though it shows up somewhat neony on my lips. I used this repeatedly for some months which is very unlikely of me :p

* Lakme Fast & Fabulous nail polish in Silver High :

Loving this pearl white with multicolored fine shimmer so much that I managed to empty half the bottle. Again so not me x_x

* MAC Powder Blush in 'Peachykeen'

I have been using this all through the year. I love how it gives a natural flush to my cheeks :D Reviewed here

* Lakme Abolute Kohl Ultimate :

This jet black, long staying kohl comes with a smudger and a sharpener. Staple in my kit !!

* Burt's Bees Replenishing Lip balm :

Got this off eBay for an excellent deal with the Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream. This has been my saviour on cold winter nights. Highly recommended :D

* DKNY Women :

Fun, flirty, floral- everything a girl wants in her summer perfume :D

 * The Body Shop Strawberry Body Mist:

Warm, cozy and sweet- Winter fragrance can't get better for me :p Makes me crave strawberry milkshake every time I use this!!

Time for a New Year Resolution :

I have a lot of stuff that is still unopened and untried. So I hereby resolve to use each and every untried item at least once in 2013 :p

It applies to the nail polishes which are not even swatched once...I think I should do a swatchathon soon. At least that way, I will use all the bottles :/

There are more but these many are already making me feel ashamed x_x

Wish List ?? I don't make one because if I do, it will be the death of me and everyone else around me :p

So this was part 1 of the 'Best of 2012'. The 2nd part is more personal and not really beauty related. Lemme know if you guys want me to put it up :p

Also lemme know what your beauty related new year resolutions are or what products have you been using the most this past year :D

MAC Lip Pencil ' Whirl ' swatch & review

Hello lovelies,
No, I am not dead or migrated to another planet...was just keeping busy at the home front !! I hope I was missed :p

Onto business now :p

If there was one thing that I never thought of buying from MAC, it was lip pencils. I actually am so lazy that I always kept thinking I don't need one. I still think so. But the worst part about being a blog reader is that you tend to buy even those things that you consciously don't need or can do without. But once that product is bought, we beauty addicts, can find a hundred ways to use it and justify our purchase.

So what made me buy MAC lip pencil(s) ? This beautiful MACed-up lady, Rashmi of indyabeauty.com 's MAC Lip Pencil Gallery post....Have a look and I am sure you will mentally be updating you to-buy list by the end of her post :p

MAC says:

A pencil designed for shaping, lining or filling in the lip. Lip Pencils have a smooth, creamy texture that is perfect for lining the lips or filling them in. They are long-lasting and available in a wide selection of colours that each work well with many different lipstick shades.

Mac lip pencils come a card paper box with a colored block at one end of the box. The color of the block is the shade of the lip pencil. The pencil itself is wooden with the actual product at the core. The pencil end is colored with that of the product, making it easier to locate in your stash.

Whirl is a dirty rose lip pencil with matte texture. It glides on easily on the lips and is opaque at the first go. When I tested it for wear, it stayed on for nearly four hours on it owns before fading away. On its own it also makes a good neutral lip color. The only con is that you need to sharpen the pencil leading to product wastage !

The bonus of MAC lip pencils is that you can mix them with the lipsticks to create variations. I bought Whirl to mix it with MAC Yash to make it more wearable for my skin tone. It also makes the lipstick stay longer. A win-win ?

Price: Rs. 950/1.45 gm

Rating: 4/5 happi :)

Recommendation: Even though I rate it 4 as a product, this is something you can easily skip and go for the ones which are less expensive. But if quality and the brand matters to you, go ahead, indulge ;)

What do you think about MAC Lip Pencils ? Lemme know below :)

Retreat Ceremony at Wagah Border Amritsar Pic Tour

My cousin from Mumbai and her two girl pals visited me last week. As every tourist coming to Amritsar for the 1st time would want, the girls were keen on going to the Wagah Border.

A lil intro to Wagah Border:

Wagah is the only road border crossing between Pakistan and India, and lies on the Grand Trunk Road between the cities ofAmritsar, Punjab, India and Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. Wagah, named Wagha in Pakistan, is a village through which the controversial Radcliffe Line, the boundary demarcation line dividing India and Pakistan upon the Partition of India, was drawn. The village was divided by independence in 1947. Today, the eastern half of the village remains in the Republic of India while the western half is in Pakistan.

The Wagah border closing 'lowering of the flags' ceremony is a daily military practice that the security forces of India (Border Security Force) and Pakistan (Pakistan Rangers) have jointly followed since 1959. This ceremony takes place every evening before sunset at the Wagah border, which as part of the Grand Trunk Road was the only road link between these two countries before the opening of the Aman Setu in Kashmir in 1999. The ceremony starts with a blustering parade by the soldiers from both the sides, and ends up in the perfectly coordinated lowering of the two nations' flags. It is called the beating retreat border ceremony on the international level. One infantryman (Jawan) stands at attention on each side of the gate. As the sun sets, the iron gates at the border are opened and the two flags are lowered simultaneously. The flags are folded and the ceremony ends with a retreat that involves a brusque handshake between soldiers from either side, followed by the closing of the gates again. The spectacle of the ceremony attracts many visitors from both sides of the border, as well as international tourists.

In October 2010, Major General Yaqub Ali Khan of the Pakistan Rangers decided that the aggressive aspect of the ceremonial theatrics should be toned down.

The ceremony has been filmed and broadcast by Michael Palin for one of his television around-the-world travel programs; he described it as a display of "carefully choreographed contempt.

(Taken from Wikipedia)

We were alloted V.I.P seats but we reached late by a couple of minutes, hence missing all the dose of patriotism which takes place before the actual ceremony starts.

There are people waving a massive Tricolor, patriotic songs blasting through the speakers and people dancing on them irrespective of age and gender.

Unfortunately I couldn't take pictures of the actual flag lowering because I was recording a video with the intentions of uploading it here...but as luick would have it, there is no voice so it looked pretty dull :(

The whole ceremony lasts for a total of 20 mins and is always a goose bump creating experience. The loud patriotic songs, people shouting 'Vande Mataram' and 'Bharat Mata Ki..Jai' gives momentary adrenaline rush, making you proud what all the sacrifices made by various people to since British rule, to give our country freedom and integrity...

Hope you enjoyed these pictures :)
